LeVan Perfect on Tub

Veteran Jim LeVan drove a near perfect race on the Tub track for the annual Road Race for the NASCAR division.  In what became 6 segment victories and only 3 fall offs this was an amazing display of driving.  Jim was able to fend off the regular Randy’s Oval guys as well as those with great road racing resume’s.  The victory was the Reading Racers 13th career NASCAR win and with it he became the ninth different winner at Randy’s Raceway this season.  Second spot went to Current NASCAR Points leader Mark Williams who won 2 segments and secured his best finish on the Tub track.  His last Road course win can in 1974 at Trooper Speedway.  Third position went to Invader Sam Heller who was in getting some laps for the big Magnet car show this Saturday.  Heller showed his experience and scored a win on the gutter lane.   Fourth with 3 segment wins was Road course ace Randy Haydt.  Rounding out the top five was another Road Racer Brian Sponagle.  Spoons won 2 segments on the night.  Overall with a strong field of 16 racers we had 7 different segment winners.

SPOONS TAKES IROC

The track was then turned over to Beetle mania as 14 entries made the grid for the IROC portion of the night.  Brian Sponagle AKA Spoons was the winner scoring 2 wins in the finely tuned VW’s by Randy.  The win Sponagle’s second career made him the 10th different winner at the Berks Facilities.  Second spot went to MR IROC Randy Haydt who won 2 segments.  Third was Chris Brubaker who won 1 segment followed by Toby Reinhard who won 2.  Rounding out the top five with his best finish of the season was Brian Vanbuskirk who won a lone segment.

NOTES

We have had 19 different drivers win an IROC Race here at Randy’s over the years.  We have now had 10 different feature winners this season among all 4 classes. This has been a very competitive year.  John Kosmoski had a pair of top 10’s on the evening, thanks for the suggestion to run the segment style on the tub track it was very competitive with very few fall offs.  Also thanks to Randy for having the track adaptable to the style of Racing we chose.  Invader Sam Heller had a third in Cup and a 6th in IROC as he prepped for this Sat’s big MAHOPA show.  Bob Amore was back again with us and scored two good runs with a 6th and 7th.
