Sheldon Hiester Takes Sportsman Season Opener

Welcome back slot car enthusiasts.  On Tuesday night September 9, 2014 it was the opening night for the Sportsman Division at Randy’s Raceway in Kutztown, PA for the 2014-2015 Racing season.  There were 14 racers on hand for the opener 25 Laps on the 8-Lane Oval.  Taking the win on the night was Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 7 segments on the night in pretty dominating fashion.  Second went to Shane Hiester.  Shane won 4 segments on the night losing by less then a lap to the winner.  Third went to defending Champion Mark Williams.  Mark didn’t win any all night, but was smooth as usual in a good start to defending his championship.  Fourth went to Mike Fitzgerald.  Mike won 1 segment on the night, and looks like he will be a contender in this division all season long.  Rounding out the top 5 was Bryan Kisthart.  Bryan won 1 segment on the night in his bright green car.  (Was it one of Randy’s?) The rest of the Top 10 were: 6-Mike Feltenberger, 7-Toby Reinhard, 8-Randy Haydt (1 win), 9-Brian Sponagle, and 10-Dave Fitzgerald.  Mike Feltenberger and Corey Bailey made there first starts of the new season at Randy’s Raceway.  Bear finished with a solid night, but Corey struggled all night finishing eleventh.  Randy’s Raceway original Jim Levan really struggled on this night finishing fourteenth, and crashing out on Lane 1.  Dave Fitzgerald turned in a solid top 10 run in just his third or fourth appearance at the oval.  He put in some work at the last two practice sessions, and tuned the car in pretty decently.  Some of the regulars missed the Sportsman opener due to a make-up outside race which Scott Bender and Billy Decker were at, and Tony Zappacosta due to work.  There were no boundary issues this week.  Next week the Mighty Mods return to the “New Old Tricky Tri-Oval”.  So if you enjoy slot car racing come support your local tracks to keep the hobby going.  Until next time stay safe and live life to the fullest because you never know what could happen next.
