Mall Race Goes to Gilmore

dsc_3148Brett Gilmore has kept his season going strong even with a change of locations for the weekly Randy’s Raceway show.  The young high school racer completed yet another sweep although another very young racer Peyton Kochel nearly won a segment from Brett.  Gilmore drove a replica Charley Gilmore bodied car making it his 10th win this season.  Sheldon Hiester scored his best mall finish ever coming home second just beating out his young nephew Payton.  Hiester won 3 segments and finished just 2 pieces of track ahead of Payton Kochel (7 years old) who won 3 segments driving a Kenny Gilmore prepared mount.

Fourth was veteran Bob Zelano Sr. in a backup Gilmore car.  The racing refrigeration guy won 4 segments.  Rounding out the top 5 was Shane Hiester who won 4 segments and ran real strong all night.   Jim Levan finished 6th in his familiar #1 and had 5 segment wins in a row before just missing a perfect run on lane 6.   Seventh went to another veteran Bob Amore who took 3 segment wins and scored his best mall finish ever.  Finishing 8th was another long time H O racer Tom Hiester.  Ninth was Mark Williams driving a Ken Gilmore car and winner of 2 segments.  Completing the top ten was Manhiems Bill Brenner.

Mall Madness

The crowds seem lower this year at the show but the racing was great on Tuesday night.  A good run by Toby Reinhard who wound up 13th in the field of 31.  Cory Reinhard also ran well and got 14th in that huge field.  Eric Beard just could not get a handle on his mount and had an off night.  Matt Kochel had a real good run and wound up 12th in his first time racing with the Randy’s crowd. A newsflash heard here first Scott Bender announced he will not race Modifieds any more this season.  Also watch for a new dedicated turn marshall at the next modified show.
