Mark Williams Wins Cup Title

This years 9 race Cup season was again a competitive season with racing on the 6 Lane Tri-Oval, 8 Lane Oval, and a Road Course race. This year’s Cup champion Mark Williams turned in a dominating season. In a close point chase at mid-season, Mark scored 3 wins and a 2nd place finish in the final 4 races to claim the title. Mark had a total of 4 wins and 3 2nd place runs to go along with 31 segment wins on way to the championship. Randy Haydt had a very consistent Cup season, despite not collecting a Cup win Randy tallied 7 Top 4 finishes, to score a 2nd place finish in the final standing, to go along with 11 segment wins. Billy Decker started the year off with 4 top 5 finishes then capped the year off with 2 more Top 5’s, including a season ending 2nd place finish, to come home with a 3rd place finish in the final totals. Billy also scored 12 segment wins. Only 7 points behind, Jim LeVan also used a strong 2nd half of the season that included 4 Top 5 finishes, along with a February win on the 8 lane to finish 4th in the standings. Brian Sponagle turned in a strong Cup season scoring his 1st career Cup win December on the Road Course, than closed out the season with 3 more Top 5 finishes capping off a good season finishing 5th.

FINISH LINES:

Congrates to Adam Z for getting ” Most Improved ” driver at the season ending banquet. Adam ran cars wrenched on by Billy D and ended the season with a pair of 8th place finishes and a 9th place in the final standings. Top 8 in points scored at least 3 segment wins. Good having John Kosmoski running the Cup season with us, John had a 4th place finish on the Tri-Oval and 1 segment win in his 6 Cup starts. The annual Road Course race produced the 3rd different winner as Brian Sponagle scored his 1st career Cup win. Finally I hear it’s a slim chance that we see Mark Williams running that beautiful purple Cup body this year, but maybe things will change as we get closer to the season ?
