Sheldon Hiester Wins Modified Opener on the Tri-Oval

Veteran racer Sheldon Hiester won the 2012-2013 season opening Modified feature at Randy’s Raceway in Kutztown PA.  Hiester won 4 segments on the tricky Tri-Oval on lanes 1-4.  He never went down a lap either on any lane and only had 5 falloffs on the evening.  Second spot went to Sheldon’s much younger twin brother Shane who also had 4 segment wins and was onlt 1 piece of track from getting his first career feature in the Modified class.  Maybe he can pull it off on the short track race coming up next.  Third spot went to another veteran and one of the original Randy’s racers Jim Levan.  Jim drove his fast #11 coupe to 1 segment wining lane 4.  That win was Levan’s 159th Modified segment win of his career.  He is now just 8 wins from moving past Dave Richards into 4th all-time.  A very surprised Mike “Bear” Feltenberger wound up 4th on the evening on what he claims is his favorite track.  Bear won a segment on lane 4 just the second of his short career here at the Berks tracks.  Rounding out the top five was defending Modified champion Mark Williams.  Williams won 3 segments moving him just ahead of Brett Gilmore on the all-time Modified segment wins list.  The rest of the top ten were Brian Kisthart (1win),  Billy Decker (1win),  Scott Bender,  Toby Reinhard and Mike Fitzgerald.

MOD TALK
Now this is hard to understand but without any tape on the floor we had zero boundry issues.  Maybe we don’t need a rulebook?  Scott seems to have learned over the summer how to operate the 50/50 bucket.  If this article is late it’s Randy’s fault.  We missed a few regulars this week, Eric Beard, Bill Brenner and Bob Amore  /  Also Brian Vanbuskirk has yet to get in this season.
