Williams Wins Modified Double Show

Mark Williams scored his third and fourth Modified wins of the season in the twin 15 show on the Tri-Oval at Randy’s Raceway.  Williams driving the Gilmore Motorsports #14 won 5 segments in each show to score narrow wins over 2 cagey veterans Billy Decker in the first half and Bob Amore in the night cap.  Williams won on all lanes but one for the first win followed closely by Billy Decker who won 3 segments in his fast yellow modified.  Third spot went to Opening day winner Shane Hiester who wheeled his potent car to 5 segment wins.  Fourth went to Sheldon Hiester who won 2 segments in a strong run as well.  Rounding out the top five was Readings Scott Bender who won a single segment and had all but 1 lead lap finishes.
The second half of the show won by Williams saw veteran Bob Amore turn in his best finish of the season grabbing the runner-up spot.  Amore ran well picking up 3 wins and 2 near misses on lanes 1 and 5.  Amore was just 17 segments behind at the drop of the flag.  Third spot went to Exeter’s Big T making one of his rare starts winning 3 segments on the tough Tri.  Fourth went to another track vet Jim Levan who won 3 segments on the show.  And completing the top 5 was Shane Hiester who stays right in the hunt for the title in the early going this season.

Modified Storyline—-
21 racers signed in this week and the competition was good.  Alex Amore had a tough night with the handling on his car which looked like a new ride for him.  Billy Decker continued his early season success driving out of his own stable.  Eric Beard also had a rough night  with 15th place twice although he did win a segment on lane six.  Scott Bender had a great night running 2 different cars 5th in the first show and then 8th in the night cap.  Bill Brenner picked up a 10th and 11th as he celebrates his 50th year racing slot cars.  A story on this achievement is planned for the website in the near future.
