Triple Header Sportsman / Sportsman / IROC

The first race of a triple-header at Randy’s Raceway was Race #5 of the season for the Sportsman.  There were 17 racers on hand for the first race.  Taking the win on the Short track was Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 5 segments on the night.  Second went to point leader Shane Hiester.  Shane won 4 segments on the night and only lost by 7 segments to take second.  Third went to Randy Haydt.  Randy won 3 segments in another strong outing in a Hiester prepared Sportsman.  Fourth went to Mark Williams.  Mark won 3 segments on the night in a Hiester back-up car.  Rounding out the top 5 was Fred McCullough.  Fred won 2 segments on the night.  The rest of the top 10 goes like this: 6-Toby Reinhard (1 win), 7-Bob Amore (1 win), 8-Billy Decker, 9-Scott Bender, and 10-Tony Zappacosta.  Scott and Tony actually tied for ninth, but the tiebreaker by fall offs gave it to Scott.  Sheldon Hiester tightened up the point’s battle, and cut the lead to 3 points going into the second and fin still had a chance at the title also.   Bob Amore struggled a little, but still had a chance at the point title.  The young racers really turned in good runs in the first race of the night getting 12 to 14 laps in a segment, which is good for new racers.
The Second race of the triple-header took us to the 8-Lane track.  There were 16 racers on hand for the second race.  Taking the win on the big track was Jim Levan.  Jim won all 6 segments on the night.  A special congratulation goes out to Jim Levan for being the only racer to win a feature in each division at Randy’s Raceway during the 2010-2011 race season.  Second went to Shane Hiester.  Shane won 3 segments on the night.  Third went to Bob Amore.  Bob won 2 segments on the night to rebound quite nicely.  Fourth went to Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 1 segment on the night.  Fifth went to Mark Williams.  Mark won 2 segments on the night.  The rest of the top 10 went as follows: 6-Fred McCullough (4 wins), 7-Randy Haydt, 8-Billy Decker (2 wins), 9-Cory Reinhard, and 10-Scott Bender.  We ran 6 lanes to conserve time for the night.  Shane Hiester wrapped up the points title with a solid second place effort.  It’s a shame Fred McCullough missed the first Sportsman race or the points may have even been tighter in the top 5 with his runs in the races he ran.
In the nightcap it was the final race of the I.R.O.C. season.  There were 12 racers on hand.  Taking the win was Bob Amore.  Bob won 2 segments on the night.  Taking second was Shane Hiester.  Shane won 2 segments on the night.  Third went to Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 2 segments on the night.  Fourth went to Fred McCullough.  Fred won 2 segments on the night.  Fifth went to Toby Reinhard.  Toby won 2 segments on the night.  The rest of the field finished like this: 6-Randy Haydt (1 win), 7-Jim Leavn (1 win), 8-Brian VanBuskirk (1 win), 9-Cory Reinhard (1 win), 10-Billy Decker, 11-Justin Fake, and 12-Matt Fake.  Thanks to Monk for preparing the Outlaw pan chassis for the race.  The point’s battle looked to be a two horse race at the start of the night between Jim Levan and Randy Haydt.  In the end a surprised third horse took the title by a point as Shane Hiester won his second championship in the same night.  Next week is the final race of the season a Cup/Sprint doubleheader.
