Bender Scores First Mod Win in 7 Years

 by Mark Williams

The racing photographer from Reading Scott Bender returned to victory lane
at Randy’s Raceway for the first time since 2001 in the Modified feature.

The win was well received and is Benders 3rd career win and his first on the
8-lane Super speedway.  Bender drove his own #7 wrenched by Billy Decker and becomes the third different winner in three outings this year at the Berks speedways. Bender won 3 segmentsand took the win by a comfortable margin. A tie between opening night winner Brett Gilmore (6 seg.) and Sheldon
Hiester (2 seg.) for second with Gilmore winning the tie breaker.  Following
Hiester was the veteran Bill Decker (3 seg.) who got off to a strong start
and wound up 4th,  Rounding out the top 5 was Shane Hiester who was runner-up in the season opener.

Berks Bits

My congratulations to Billy Decker on his win last week in the Cup show,
well earned.  Also to Scott Bender for an impressive victory in the Mod main
this week.  Didn’t he retire a few years ago? Internet rumors. Sam Heller
won last week over at RMS as he tied with Rich Schmidt. Bruce Heller
notched a top ten at Randy’s and has been working hard wrenching Cindy’s
cars as well as his own. Nice to see Alex and Audra with Taylor at the
track last week. Bob Amore has not gotten untracked in Modified yet this
year and had some lap counting issues this week.

Scores and points will be up-dated 9/25/09 evening.
