BOB ZELANO APPLIANCE NIGHT A HUGH SUCCESS
by mark williams
23 racers jammed the pits on Bob Zelano's Appliance night at Randy's Raceway
this past Tuesday. Bob has been a long time Tyco racer and supporter of the
oval tracks at Randy's Raceway over the years. All participants received
Tyco parts and tires compliments of Mr. Zelano. Thank you very much Bob.
BRETT GILMORE WINS THIRD MOD MAIN
by mark williams
Brett Gilmore drove to a 3 section of track victory over his Dad in this
weeks Modified main event. It was his third win of the season. Young
Gilmore had a very impressive night winning 7 of his 8 races. Only Crystal
Bowers could keep him from all 8 lane wins as she won on lane 2. Kenny
Gilmore the defending 4 time modified champion wound up second winner of 6
segments. Third spot went to Mt Penn native Jim Levan who had 5 segment
wins and race a very strong race all night in his white coupe bodied car.
Scott Bender turned in his best performance of the season in the modified
division with a fourth place run and finished on the lead lap every race
except 1. Rounding out the top 5 was Mark Williams the current points
leader and with 1 race left added to his sizable margin.
BERKS BITS
How about that Billy Decker! The Easton racer came home 6th in the 23 car
field scoring 1 segment win along the way. Nice to see Bill with a real
strong run. Eric Wenrich also continued his best season so far with
another good run. Eric would be a top five points contender if he had not
missed a few shows earlier in the season. We are building momentum as the
season winds down and looking toward next season. It was great having Shane
and Sheldon Hiester in the field, remember no matter what track you run on
turn 2 lane five stinks. Good to see Mike Wentzel a Hiester regular give Randy's
Raceway his first try and he started to get the feel with a couple of 13's.
Bill Brenner had a tough night and he finished back in the field. Troy
Bowers was another regular that had an off night. Travis McAthur had a good
night picking up 16th in a large field. We ran into a few old H. O. racers
at the Reading Fairgounds Mall show last Friday and a few of them expressed
interest in returning and racing again soon. Rich Pigeon and Blaine Sadler
who used to race at Woodland Speedway in the 70's still has his H. O. Box.
It was Blaine Seniors Birthday and they had a cake for him at the show.
