Hiester’s Tie for Cup Title and NASCAR Season Review

The cup division at Randy’s Raceway has always been a very close and competitive class, but the way this season unfolded nobody would have predicted. Heading into the season’s final race 3 drivers had a shot to claim the title, Jim Levan, Shane and Sheldon Hiester were separated by only 6 points. The season final race came on the 8 lane fast track and Shane Hiester scored the race win by less than 1 lap over brother Sheldon, to finish in a tie for the NASCAR point championship, this a 1st in 12 years of racing at Randy’s Raceway. Turning in another fine season was Jim Levan who scored 2 wins, and 23 segment wins, but a bad run on lane 7 in the season’s final race cost Jim a shot at the title, but still a good season and a 3rd place finish overall. Mark Williams used 2 top 3 finishes in the season final 2 races for a 4th place finish, Mark also scored a win in race 4 on the Tri-Oval and collected 20 segment wins. Only 2 points behind, Randy Haydt scored 5 top 5 finishes and 15 segment wins capping off a good season finishing 5th in the final standing.
Positions 6 – 10 included 2 Rookies, Brian Kisthart turned in a very consistent Rookie season recording 3 top 5 finishes and 5 segment wins on way to a 6th place finish. Billy Decker recorded 2 4th place finishes, 7 segment wins coming home 7th. Scott Bender struggled all season, scored 1 segment win for a 8th place finish. Toby Reinhard scored 1 top 5 finish, and 2 segment wins to finish 9th. Rounding out the 10 Rookie Corey Bailey capped off his season with a strong 5th place finish to close out the top 10.
