Kenny Gilmore Wins 1st Sportsman Race

by Shane Hiester

Kenny "Monk" Gilmore won the Inaugural Sportsman Division race at Randy’s Raceway.

Monk won 4 segments on the tricky tri-oval to take the win.  Second went to Bob Amore who had a tough lane 2 but still salvaged a very good finish.  Bob won 3 segments on the night.  Third went to Jim levan who continues to impress early on in the season at Randy’s Raceway in every division.  Jim won 1 segment on the night.  Fourth went to Brett Gilmore who raced consistent all night long.  Brett won 2 segments.  Rounding out the top 5 was Randy Haydt in 5th.  The computer must have miscalculated that Randy finished fifth instead of third.  Randy didn’t win any segments but was pretty smooth all night long.  The rest of the field went this way 6-Sheldon Hiester, 7-Shane Hiester, 8-Billy Decker (2wins), 9-Dennis Kersher, 10-Steven Kersher, 11-Nick Wummer, and 12-Dale Stengele.  The debut was pretty good for the Sportsman Class as Randy hopes for it to grow a little in the next few events.

In the nightcap and I mean that literally the I R O C Race with the AFX Non-Magnatraction cars was to say the least a marathon.  Taking the win in the first I R O C event of the season was Bob Amore.  Bob concluded a very successful night with a 1st and 2nd place finish.  Bob won 3 segments en route to the victory.  Second went to Sheldon Hiester who without some unfortunate luck of not starting on lane 1 a few times the outcome may have changed.  Sheldon won 3 segments on the night.  Third went to Jim Levan who has kept his top 5 streak alive this year with another steady run.  Jim won 2 segments.  Fourth went to Shane Hiester.  Shane won 1 segment.  Fifth went to Steven Kersher who ran well with the older style cars for his first time racing them.  Rounding out the field were 6-Dennis Kersher, 7-Brett Gilmore (1 win), 8-Dale Stengele., and 9-Nick Wummer.  The racers would like to thank Jim Levan for preparing 6 pretty even AFX cars to play with.  "Mr. I R O C" Scott Bender ran a good race with the AFX cars, that he went so fast around the track the lap counter could not score him.  He had a perfect score of 0.00 for the night thats how fast he was.  Next week is Modifieds on the Tri-Oval.  Also Randy said the Sandwich sale order forms will be available next Tuesday when he prints them.  That’s all for now thanks to Mark and Scott for giving me the chance to write the article.
