McCullough Takes Sportsman Win

Tuesday night October 23, 2012 was the third race for the Sportsman cars at Randy’s Raceway this time on the 8-Lane fast track.  There were 17 racers in attendance for the event.  Taking the win was Fred McCullough.  Fred won 7 segments on the night missing a perfect night by 1 segment.  Second went to Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 5 segments on the night including the one that kept Freddy Mac from a sweep.  Third went to Shane Hiester.  Shane won 4 segments on the night to hold on to the point lead.  Fourth went to Mark Williams.  Mark won 1 segment on the night.  Rounding out the top 5 was Mike Feltenberger.  Bear didn’t win any segments for the first time all season in his appearances at Randy’s Raceway.  The rest of the top 10 were: 6-Randy Haydt (2 wins), 7-Scott Bender, 8-Toby Reinhard, 9-Mike Fitzgerald, and 10-Jim Levan.  Billy Decker and Tony Zappacosta both struggled with their Decker Motorsports built cars, but I’m sure they will bounce back in the next race.  Newer racers Corey Bailey, Ed Sojtori, Mike Fitzgerald, and Brian Sponagle are showing good improvement each week finishing higher in the order and not crashing out as often.  Larry Sanders is also getting faster each week out in the different classes.  It is good to see the newcomers improving and starting to challenge some of the veterans in some segments week in and week out.  I heard from a little birdie that there were a few boundary infractions on the night, but there were no penalties enforced for the foul.  Next week is the Mods on the Tri-Oval.  Hope to see everyone there for a cheap night of fun.  Weather permitting unless were all miners with light hats it would be hard to race. That’s all for now sorry for the delay on getting the story there Scott it wasn’t Randy.
