Brian Sponagle won his second NASCAR Feature win at Randy’s Raceway on the Tricky Tri-Oval. The first win was last season on the Tub Track road course. Spoons won 4 segments as he narrowly beat Randy Haydt by only 4 pieces of track. Close racing all night prevailed with many torrid battles. Eight different drivers won segments. For Sponagle who is quickly becoming the driver to beat on the Tri-Oval this win follows up his impressive win 2 weeks ago in the Berks- Lebanon Series race. Haydt ran off 4 straight segment wins on lanes 2 through 5 to earn his runner-up spot and now has a share of the Cup points lead. Third spot went to Jim LeVan who won 2 segments and looked really fast all night. Fourth was Cory Reinhard winner of a segment on lane 2 and all lead lap runs. Reinhard brought the TCS Racing mount in only 27 pieces away from that elusive first career checkered. Rounding out the top five was Mark Williams in his Red number 50, winner of 1 segment. Sixth through tenth were Toby Reinhard (1), Billy Decker (1), Bob Amore (1), Scott Bender and John Kosmoski. Four drivers had 5 or less falloffs during the event.
WILLIAMS-SPONAGLE TIE FOR IROC WIN GOES TO WILLIAMS ON TIEBREAKER
Mark Williams and Brian Sponagle tied for the win in IROC with the AFX Magna Traction cars. The field was evenly matched with many good runs. Williams won the event based on 3 to 2 in segment wins which is the first tie-breaker here at the track. The win was the third this season for the Boyertown driver. Third spot went to Randy Haydt with 1 segment win. Fourth was Chris Brubaker also with 1 segment win. Cory Reinhard was fifth with 4 segment wins.
NOTES-
15 drivers on hand for NASCAR and 13 stayed for the IROC show. Team TCS had a strong showing with Cory scoring 2 top fives on the night. Scott Bender wound up sixth in IROC to go along with his top 10 in NASCAR. Brian Vanbuskirk had a nice 7th in the IROC portion. Jody Williams substituted for 1 lane to stay active in IROC. There was some rubbing in the IROC show but that’s normal when certain guys are in lanes close by. Ever since the shock collars came in we have had zero problems with the lane box violations. NASCAR entries are up 3 over the same point last season. IROC entries at up 7, Modified are up 26 and Sprint class is up 9 entries. Overall 45 more entries this season over the same point last season.
