Tuesday night April 2, 2012 was the final race of the 2011-2012 racing season at Randy’s Raceway. The Sportsman and IROC clasees were in the spotlight. There were 17 racers on hand for the event, and taking the win in the Sportsmans was Shane Hiester. Shane won 6 segments on the night in clinching the title. Second went to Fred McCullough. Fred won 5 segments on the night. Third went to Mark Williams. Mark won 1 segment in a very strong run to end the season. Fourth went to Sheldon Hiester. Sheldon won 2 segments on the night. Rounding out the top 5 was youngster Peyton Kochel in his first start at Randy’s Raceway. Peyton won 1 segment on the night. The rest of the top 10 were: 6-Eric Beard (3 wins), 7-Bill Brenner, 8-Scott Bender, 9-Jim Levan (1 win), and 10-Mike Feltenberger. A lot of racers made their forst starts of the year in the Sportsman division in the last race of the season. Most new racers came home with very good runs. Track owner Randy Haydt struggled in the race, but I think it may have been lack of car preparation by the car owners. The racing was good and close with several finishing positions ending on the same lap. The Sportsman season came to a conclusion with a good solid field to end another successful season for the division.
To end the night it was the IROC race with stock Tyco Pan Chassis. Taking his first win of the season was Sheldon Hiester. Sheldon won 4 segments on the night. Second went to Shane Hiester. Shane won 3 segments on the night. Third went to Fred McCullough. Fred won 3 segments on the night. Fourth went to Scott Bender. Scott won 1 segment on the night in a good outing. Fifth went to Mike Feltenberger. Bear won 1 segment on the night in his first ever IROC start. Rounding out the top 10 were: 6-Mark Williams, 7-Randy Haydt (3 wins), 8-Jim Levan (2 wins), 9-Billy Decker (1 win), and 10-Peyton Kochel (1 win). Peyton Kochel had a very good night leaving Randy’s Raceway for the first time with two top 10 finishes with tough racers around him all night to try and beat. Bill Brenner, Eric Beard, and Corey Bailey also made their first IROC starts of the season. Once again the cars were well prepared by Randy Haydt. Thanks Randy for getting the cars so equal that any car could win a race except lane 7 which had slight handling issues. Congratulations to IROC Champion Shane Hiester. That’s a wrap on the season at Randy’s Raceway for the 2011-2012 season.
On behalf of all the racers at Randy’s Raceway we would just like to say THANK YOU Randy for allowing us to do this each and every Tuesday night over the winter. It was a good fun season, and we owe you a lot of gratitude even though we don’t show it all the we all appreciate very much what you do for everybody that races at your establishment. Sorry for the delay on the story, kind of a busy week.
