Tuesday night March 26, 2013 was the 2012 – 2013 season finale for the Sportsman at Randy’s Raceway on the tricky Tri-Oval. There were 21 racers in the pits for action. Taking the win was Shane Hiester. Shane won 5 segments on the night. Second went to Randy Haydt. Randy steered the Hiester prepared car to 2 segment wins on the night. Third went to Jim Levan. Jim won 3 segments on the night in his “Not so fast car”. Fourth went to Fred McCullough. Freddy Mac won 2 segments on the night. Rounding out the top 5 was Bryan Kisthart. Bryan won 2 segments on the night. The rest of the top 10 were: 6 – Mike Feltenberger (1 win), 7 – Sheldon Hiester (4 wins), 8 – Mark Williams, 9 – Scott Bender (1 win), and 10 – Corey Bailey (2 wins). Sheldon Hiester struggled on on lanes 5 & 6 to finish seventh, and lead to an interesting outcome in the final point standings. With the efforts of Shane Hiester on this night it led to a tie in the standings for the title. Congratulations to Sheldon and Shane Hiester on their championships. Back to fill you in on the nights action. Tom Spatz in his firts ever start on the Tri-Oval completed the night without falling off once all night, and finished 16th. There was pleanty of good action on the night with lots of close battles in several races. Mark Williams was the only top 10 finisher without a segment win so that tells you Mark is Mr. Smooth on the trigger to still finish in the top 10 without a win. The Barlet family ran again it was their initial start on the Tri-Oval needless to say they had some struggles. Mike Fitzgerald struggled along with Billy Decker and both just missed the top 10. Donna Bryant and Bean keep showing improvement every week gaining vital experience on the different tracks. Thanks to Randy for putting on this division again this year it was a fun year with lots of good racing. Nice strong way to end the season with 21 racers, lets keep this together and make it strong for next season. Next week final race of the 2012 – 2013 season at Randy’s Raceway for the Modifieds. Hope to see you out here to support the last race. There will be a review this summer I will make sure I have time to fit it in and write something up.
