Tuesday night September 4, 2012 was the opener of the 2012-2013 season at Randy’s Raceway in Kutztown, PA. The season kicked off with the Sportsman 25’s on the Short Track. This is a change for the new year, where as in the past we have started the season with Mods on the 8-Lane. There were 15 racers in attendance for the opener. Taking the win was defending Sportsman champ Shane Hiester. Shane won 3 segments in route to victory. Second went to Mark Williams. Mark won 3 segments on the night in a Hiester back up car. Third went to the always tough and smooth Fred McCullough. Fred won 3 segments on the night. Fourth went to Scott Bender. Scott won 1 segment on the night. Rounding out the top 5 was Sheldon Hiester. Sheldon won 2 segments on the night. The rest of the top 10 were: 6-Billy Decker (1 win), 7-Mike feltenberger (2 wins), 8-Cory Reinhard, 9-Bob Amore, and 10-Corey Bailey. The rest of the field was 11-Randy Haydt, 12-Tony Zappacosta, 13-Toby Reinhard, 14-Ed S., and 15-Larry Sanders. The racing was very good all night with only one racer crashing out on the evening. Thanks to Randy for allowing us into his house to enjoy the hobby we love. Some of the normal veterans were missing in action, but hopefully they will return soon. Next week is the opener for the Mods on the tricky Tri-Oval 25 lap segments. There weren’t any boundary issues in the opener so let’s keep it that way guys so we can have a good season always a fun time. Hope to see everyone next week for the Mod opener with maybe a few more racers if the guys show up that only run Mods should be a good night.
