Shane Hiester Wins Regular Modified Show
Shane Hiester waited 4 years to score his first Modified Feature at Randy’s Raceway but only a few weeks to notch his second. He won the regularly scheduled show on the smooth Tri-Oval 6 lane. Hiester won 1 segment and had an unheard of 4 14.30 lap runs. Just missing a perfect night by 7 segments. Shane now has 141 segment wins at the Berks Ovals in a Modified. Second spot in a backup Sheldn Hiester car was Mark Williams. Williams won 3 segments, the third one became his 400th career Modified segment win. Finishing third and picking up 3 segment wins also was Bryan Kisthart in one of his best finishes at the Oval. [Read more…]
Decker Wins Modified Main Event
Veteran slot car enthusiast Billy Decker won the Modified feature at Randy’s Raceway driving his #04 bodied car. Billy was strong all night, staying on the lead lap in all 8 lanes. He picked up segment wins on lanes 4 through 6 and with those 3 segments he has tied Bob Amore for 6th place all time in the Modified ranks. Decker’s last win at Randy’s Raceway in the Mods was December 30, 2008 and this was a very popular win, the third of his long career. [Read more…]
Shane Hiester Wins Career First
It was a long time coming but veteran H.O. racer Shane Hiester from the racing Hiester family finally won his career first Modified feature. The win by almost 1 full lap came on the tight short track know as Monk”s oval. Hiester won 3 segments and only had 6 fall offs on the tricky six lane oval. Previously Hietser has had many runner-ups at Randy’s Raceway but that first win had eluded him. Finshing a career best also as the second place car was Bryan K who won two segments and was strong on all lanes getting a win on tough lane one, which was the only driver of 19 to get a win on lane one. Levan Wins Mod Main
Veteran Jim Levan scored his first win of the season and 8th of his career at the Berks County oval called Randy’s Raceway. Levan was real strong in his #12 Coupe bodied racer winning segments on lanes 4, 6 and 7. Second spot went to Shane Hiester who keeps his career first Modified win at least another 2 weeks away as he still looks to get that elusive win. Shane won just 1 segment as he was real fast on the outside taking lane 8. Third spot went Eric Beard who made his first start of this season in his new #88 modified. [Read more…]
Sheldon Hiester Wins Modified Opener on the Tri-Oval
Veteran racer Sheldon Hiester won the 2012-2013 season opening Modified feature at Randy’s Raceway in Kutztown PA. Hiester won 4 segments on the tricky Tri-Oval on lanes 1-4. He never went down a lap either on any lane and only had 5 falloffs on the evening. Second spot went to Sheldon’s much younger twin brother Shane who also had 4 segment wins and was onlt 1 piece of track from getting his first career feature in the Modified class. MODIFIED SEASON WRAP
Here is the 2011 / 2012 Randy’s Raceway Modified season wrap up. We had 34 racers compete in the headline division in 15 shows during the season. Nine drivers made all 15 races. I will review the top 20 in points and also have career stats included with the summaries.
20th SAM SOBOEWSKI Sam ran with us 3 times and is Bretts buddy. He learned real quick and seemed to get better each time out.
19th LARRY SANDERS Larry made in in for 3 races this season and has been working on his tyco program trying to get the set up just right. Larry just missed the top ten on all three runs finishing 11th each time.
18th NICK WUMMER Nick ran the early part of the season before he got involved with a job that limited his attendance here. Nick races hard and had a top 10 this season. [Read more…]
Annual Banquet Well Attended
The 11th annual awards banquet was held at Randy’s Raceway recently and it was very well attended. With almost 30 in attendance the point fund was distributed and Point Champions Shane Hiester, Jim Levan and Mark Williams received the hardware sponsored by Dale Stengele. Promoter Randy Haydt thanked the many hands that help during the season and the group also honored Randy with a gift certificate to Harbor Freight. [Read more…]
Veteran Bill Brenner Wins Season’s Final Mod Event
Veteran slot car racer of 5 decades Bill Brenner out of Manheim PA won the season’s final Modified feature is a stunner. Brenner won 2 segments on lanes 2 and 3 and had all lead lap rune except lane 7. Brenner powered the Eric Beard prepared car to the win. This was the first ever feature win for the car builder from Gettysburg. Shane Hiester wound up second and just missed winning by 6 pieces of track. A win in Modified would have given the Shillington racer a feature win in every division this season. Hiester won 3 segments on the night. [Read more…]
Williams Wins Sixth Feature
Mark Williams won his sixth Modified feature of this season and locked up the season points championship. Williams ran the pink Kenny Gilmore prepared tyco sweeping all eight lanes with only 5 falloffs. 17 racers were on hand and Shane Hiester ran a strong race winning his first 5 segments to grab 2nd on the evening. Sheldon Hiester won on lane 1 and then turned in steady runs the rest of the way grabbing third spot. Fourth was Brett Gilmore in his #7 followed by Toby Reinhard who picked up his first modified segment win of the season and a real strong top 5 finish. Sixth through tenth were Bill Brenner, Jim Levan, Eric Beard, Tony Z and veteran Mike Feltenberger in his Bulllock #76.
Modified Madness
Veteran Bill Brenner had a good run in the Beard #18 bringing it home 6th in the next too last race for this season. Tony Z also won a segment in the Billy Decker prepared #44. Decker has fielded 2 strong modified teams all season and the combination of Bill and Tony has been a real surprise this year. Good luck to that team the rest of this season and we hope they return as a team next year. Cory Rienhard made his night a good one finishing 13th even though he did not feel taht good. With the whole sppring ahead daylight savings time coming this weekend does anybody have a clue what the clocks at Randy’s raceway will look like on Tuesday night……………..
