Shane Hiester Wins Sportsman Feature to Tie for Championship

Tuesday night March 26, 2013 was the 2012 – 2013 season finale for the Sportsman at Randy’s Raceway on the tricky Tri-Oval.  There were 21 racers in the pits for action.  Taking the win was Shane Hiester.  Shane won 5 segments on the night.  Second went to Randy Haydt.  Randy steered the Hiester prepared car to 2 segment wins on the night.  Third went to Jim Levan.  Jim won 3 segments on the night in his “Not so fast car”.  Fourth went to Fred McCullough.  Freddy Mac won 2 segments on the night.  Rounding out the top 5 was Bryan Kisthart.  Bryan won 2 segments on the night. Fred McCullough wins Holiday 2012 Sportsman at Randy’s Raceway

On Thursday night December 27, 2012 a special Sportsman race was held at Randy’s Raceway featuring 25 lap races on the 8-Lane oval.  There were 19 racers in attendance for the event sponsored by Scott Bender Racing Photos.  Taking the win was the always fast and steady Fred McCullough.  Fred won 5 segments on the night.  Second went to Sheldon Hiester in his Doug Hoffman Norm Hansell 357 replica body to honor the passing of the late Doug Hoffman.  Sheldon won 6 segments on the night.  Third went to Shane Hiester.  Shane won 4 segments on the night.  [Read more…]

McCullough Takes Sportsman Win

Tuesday night October 23, 2012 was the third race for the Sportsman cars at Randy’s Raceway this time on the 8-Lane fast track.  There were 17 racers in attendance for the event.  Taking the win was Fred McCullough.  Fred won 7 segments on the night missing a perfect night by 1 segment.  Second went to Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 5 segments on the night including the one that kept Freddy Mac from a sweep.  Third went to Shane Hiester.  Shane won 4 segments on the night to hold on to the point lead.  [Read more…]

Shane Hiester Wins 2012 – 13 Sportsman Opener

Tuesday night September 4, 2012 was the opener of the 2012-2013 season at Randy’s Raceway in Kutztown, PA.  The season kicked off with the Sportsman 25’s on the Short Track.  This is a change for the new year, where as in the past we have started the season with Mods on the 8-Lane.  There were 15 racers in attendance for the opener.  Taking the win was defending Sportsman champ Shane Hiester.  Shane won 3 segments in route to victory.  [Read more…]

Shane and Sheldon Win Last Two of the Season

Tuesday night April 2, 2012 was the final race of the 2011-2012 racing season at Randy’s Raceway.  The Sportsman and IROC clasees were in the spotlight.  There were 17 racers on hand for the event, and taking the win in the Sportsmans was Shane Hiester.  Shane won 6 segments on the night in clinching the title.  Second went to Fred McCullough.  Fred won 5 segments on the night.  Third went to Mark Williams.  Mark won 1 segment in a very strong run to end the season.  Fourth went to Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 2 segments on the night.  Rounding out the top 5 was youngster Peyton Kochel in his first start at Randy’s Raceway.  Peyton won 1 segment on the night.  The rest of the top 10 were: 6-Eric Beard (3 wins), 7-Bill Brenner, 8-Scott Bender, 9-Jim Levan (1 win), and 10-Mike Feltenberger.  A lot of racers made their forst starts of the year in the Sportsman division in the last race of the season.  Most new racers came home with very good runs.  [Read more…]

Randy Wins Two

Tuesday night January 31, 2012 was the fifth race for the Sportsman and IROC divisions at Randy’s Raceway.  There were 15 racers on hand for the Sportsman portion of the night.  Randy Haydt swept the cat hair away to a two-victory night.  In the Sportsman Randy won 5 segments in route to the victory.  Second went to Fred McCullough who really has figured out the Tri-Oval.  Fred won 5 segments on the night.  Third went to point leader Shane Hiester.  Shane won 1 segment on the night.  Fourth went to Mark Williams.  Mark won 2 segments on the night in his Hiester prepared Sportsman.  Rounding out the top 5 was Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 3 segments on the night.  [Read more…]

Defending Champ Doubles Up

Tuesday night October 25, 2011 was the second race of the season for the Sportsman and IROC divisions at Randy’s Raceway in Kutztown.  There were 14 racers on hand.  Taking the win in the headliner was defending champion Shane Hiester.  Shane drove to the win on the Short track winning 4 segments on the night.  Second went to the always smooth running Fred McCullough.  Fred won 2 segments on the night.  Third went to Billy Decker.  Billy won 3 segments on the night coasting his way to a good run.  Fourth went to Mark Williams.  Mark won 3 segments on the night in a Hiester prepared Sportsman.  Rounding out the top 5 was Sheldon Hiester. Year Ending Awards Banquet at Randy’s Raceway

Tuesday April 12, 2011 was the Annual Awards Banquet at Randy’s Raceway.  The night started out with the awards being handed out to all the racers that ran enough events to be in the top 15 in points.  Each racer received a hat, yearly statistics book, and a cash reward.  Then it was time to eat.  Sandwiches, veggie tray, chips, pretzels, and plenty of desserts were there to eat.  What is better to do on a full belly than get an extra helping of a slot car race in afterwards.  There were 16 racers that stayed to wash down all the good food with a race.  [Read more…]

Triple Header Sportsman / Sportsman / IROC

The first race of a triple-header at Randy’s Raceway was Race #5 of the season for the Sportsman.  There were 17 racers on hand for the first race.  Taking the win on the Short track was Sheldon Hiester.  Sheldon won 5 segments on the night.  Second went to point leader Shane Hiester.  Shane won 4 segments on the night and only lost by 7 segments to take second.  Third went to Randy Haydt.  Randy won 3 segments in another strong outing in a Hiester prepared Sportsman.  Fourth went to Mark Williams.  Mark won 3 segments on the night in a Hiester back-up car.  Rounding out the top 5 was Fred McCullough.  Fred won 2 segments on the night.  The rest of the top 10 goes like this: [Read more…]
