It was opening night for the Modifieds at Randy’s Raceway as a strong field of 19 racers signed in, and Shane Hiester turned in a strong performance winning 3 segments on way to the win. Shane’s win was less than 1 lap over Mark Williams who scored 1segment win to come home with a good Runner up finish. Tuesday September 3, 2013 was the 2013-2014 season opener at Randy’s Raceway in Kutztown, PA.  There were 19 racers on hand for the Sportsman season opener.  Taking the win was defending co-champion Shane Hiester.  Shane won 4 segments on the night in his new Mike Lisowski Sportsman body.  Second went to Billy Decker.  Billy won 4 segments also on the night in his new Kevin Beach Jr. body.  Third went to Mike Fitzgerald.  Mike won 3 segments in his Corey Sechrist sail panel bodied car.  Fourth went to the 2012-2013 Sportsman Rookie of the Year Corey Bailey.  Corey won 1 segment on the night.  [Read more…]

The cup division at Randy’s Raceway has always been a very close and competitive class, but the way this season unfolded nobody would have predicted. Heading into the season’s final race 3 drivers had a shot to claim the title, Jim Levan, Shane and Sheldon Hiester were separated by only 6 points. The season final race came on the 8 lane fast track and Shane Hiester scored the race win by less than 1 lap over brother Sheldon, to finish in a tie for the NASCAR point championship, this a 1st in 12 years of racing at Randy’s Raceway. This years season review will consist of a wrap-up of last season, a section on career stats and a sneak peek at what’s coming next season.
The past season at Randy’s Raceway saw 28 racers compete in the Modified Class with around 20 on a regular basis.  It was great having long time slot car racers Chad Favinger, Bill Rowley and Gary Hetrick making an appearance as well as Big T who made a few shows when his schedule permitted.  We had seven racers make every show and 6 different feature winners.  15 drivers won at least 1 segment with Sheldon Hiester garnering the tops with 44 segment victories.  We had 3 Rookies finish in the top ten of points.

It was the season ending rules meeting held at Randy’s Raceway on Tuesday night. There was a good group of people sharing their opinions on many topics in attendance. Corey Bailey, Donna Bryant, Brian Palencar, Jim Levan, Shane and Sheldon Hiester, Brian Kisthart, Bob Amore, Mike Feltenberger and Mark & Jodi Williams were in on the decision-making.

Schedule Modified
15 race season — 8 races on the 8 lane, and 7 on the Tri-Oval.

Schedule Sportsman
9 race season — 5 on the Tri-Oval, and 4 on the 8 lane.

Schedule NASCAR
9 race season — 4 on the 8 lane, 4 on the Tri-Oval, and 1 on the Road Course.
With many positive responses from the recent banquet race held on the road course, everybody agreed a NASCAR race on the road course would be something different and a new challenge for some of us.

Points
Different ideas were discussed but no changes will be made for this year.

bodies must have full rear wheel wells.

NASCAR Rule Changes

Gears
ratio can range from Minimum 20 to Maximum 24. A stock 25 gear is also allowed. All gears must be stamped ( except stock )

Power Person to Run the Races
Beginning next year a list will go around for people to sign and volunteer to do power during the night.

The 12th annual Randy’s Raceway awards banquet was well attended and all had plenty of good food and fun.  After the awards, which included naming the Division Point Champions and special award recipients, everyone had a great meal then a fun race on the Tub track with Road course rules.  Special thanks to all who helped in anyway with the organizing, race night operations, helping fellow racers.

Shane Hiester won his 5th Modified feature of the season at Randy’s Raceway.  Hiester who completed a mad dash at the point title fell short by just six points.  Sheldon Hiester won his very first Modified Championship at Randy’s Raceway with an efficient third place finish in the final show.  Veteran Bill Brenner was second in the race and looked real strong in his Eric Beard prepped racer.  Fourth went to the defending Modified champion Mark Williams who wound up third in this years chase.  [Read more…]
